Confounding混杂
A labour analyst has 300 workers and three columns: subsidy used or not, pay a year later, and household savings before the program. Workers with more savings both take the subsidy and earn more later. The analyst draws one line through pay and subsidy use, and the line slopes up. That slope is mixing the subsidy with the savings. The mix is confounding. If the subsidy itself adds nothing, the line can still slope up.
